How to think about AI and your brain
A framework for deciding when, how, and whether to use AI based on what you're willing to let go.

The skills framework
Inspired by Bloom's taxonomy, this is my breakdown of the critical human skill categories that might overlap with AI tools today and in the future.
It's organized along the continuum of skills that you want to avoid using AI around (at the top) and those which can, should, or are already outsourced to technology today at the bottom.
There's more than one way to use an AI tool, and different modes of using it will have different implications depending on the skill you use. Even skills in the strongly "protect" range might be ok to bring in an AI tool, as long as you're careful about how you use it!
Below I have my version, which you can download as a .png file.
Alternatively, you can create your own! These categorizations are just my personal judgement. If you disagree, you can pick your own here. Just click on the box you want to change until it cycles to the color you want, and you can print that version. To edit the text, double click. Send me your versions!

Why did I make this?
This post tells the long story, but in short... I was tired of both the extreme ends of the conversation around AI, and the lack of clarity on what specifically I should and shouldn't use AI for.
So I made my own framework!
The actual colored boxes reflect my current thinking, but who knows, this may shift over time! I am not a technical AI expert. More of a human expert, though.
